Equine Wellness Activities and How We Can Reverse the Effects of ‘The War on Childhood’

Kim John Payne is a renowned author, speaker, and consultant who has dedicated his life to advocating for the well-being of children. In his book, “Simplicity Parenting,” Payne discusses the negative effects of our modern society’s “War on Childhood,” which he defines as the bombardment of children with information, technology, and stimulation, causing them to feel overwhelmed and stressed.

At our wellness facility, The Equellness Center, we understand the importance of providing children with a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Equine Assisted Activities, such as horseback riding, grooming, and caring for horses can be incredibly beneficial for children’s physical, emotional, and social development. Spending time with these gentle animals can teach children important skills such as empathy, patience, and responsibility.

In addition to Equine Assisted Activities, we also offer mindful activities including rhythmic movement, music, and gardening. These activities can help children to slow down, focus their attention, and connect with their surroundings. Rhythmic movement, such as dance or yoga, can help children regulate their emotions and reduce anxiety. The same is true for rhythmic music, like drumming. Music and dance can also improve communication and self-expression. Gardening can teach children about the natural world and the importance of sustainability, a value we at The Equellness Center hold dear to our hearts and practice daily.

By engaging in these activities, children can benefit from a sense of calm, improved communication, and a greater appreciation for the world around them. They can also gain a better understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their place in the world. These activities can help reverse and prevent the effects of Payne’s “War on Childhood” by providing children with the space and time to be themselves and to develop at their own pace.

At The Equellness Center, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and wonder of childhood. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and flourish.
